The Culinary Business Institute has provided business education focused on home based culinary businesses throughout North America since 2012 – but our roots go much further back.
The whole Personal Chef Service concept was developed and launched in 1991 and the United States Personal Chef Association (USPCA) was born. Training materials were written, field tested, then generated for others to learn from. After the Personal Chef Service was beta tested with success, the USPCA was on all three major networks with live interviews about this “new” concept, providing the solution for “What’s For Dinner?” That exposure propelled USPCA into the national spotlight, and the demand for training materials went through the roof, as did the need to bring all these new participants together in way to share and learn from each other.
Frequently the training materials would be updated, involving real life experiences about how to (and how not to) build a successful Personal Chef Service. By 2000 the materials required minimal adjustments to stay up with industry changes. In 2004 the USPCA, which is the largest professional Personal Chef trade organization in the world, separated the business training from the membership obligations; however, both remained under the guidance of the USPCA.
This new training division was named the Culinary Business Academy. By now the training had expanded to include how to add a revenue source by providing dinner parties and how to conduct operations in a commercial kitchen. Still focused on the business aspect and still drawing information from individuals who were conducting these services, these two new areas of expertise were quickly embraced. In 2008 the Culinary Business Academy became a separate entity, still working in harmony with the USPCA. In 2012 the Culinary Business Academy became the Culinary Business Institute – and continues to be recognized as the expert in culinary business education.
As you can see, our excellent, proven training methods and materials have roots directly back to where this industry all began. Our materials receive regular updates as warranted, and we remain at the cutting edge as this industry expands and offers opportunities/changes.
And that is how the Culinary Business Institute came to be. Same proven programs and methods, just a new name.
